Public Comment Period for the draft Solid Waste Plan Update

The Portage County Solid Waste Management District is establishing a 30-day written comment period on the draft Portage County Solid Waste Management Plan Update (May 20, 2025, until June 19, 2025) (Ohio Revised Code 3734.54). The draft Plan Update has been prepared as required by Section 3734.54 of the Ohio Revised Code. This 2026 draft Plan is an update to the current approved solid waste plan and includes a solid waste facility inventory, projections and strategies, a budget and fees to finance the Plan, facilities and programs to be used, and an analysis of achieving the State Plan reduction goals. 

This draft Plan Update includes a demonstration of access to landfill capacity and determines there is more than ten years of capacity available to the District. The District does not currently designate facilities but reserves the right to as authorized by section 343.014 of the Ohio Revised Code.

The District will accept written comments as required by the Ohio Revised Code Section 3734.55 of the draft Plan Update from May 20, 2025, to June 19, 2025. Written comments should be mailed to Dawn Collins, Director, Portage County Solid Waste District, 3588 Mogadore Rd, Kent, Ohio 44240 or via email to dcollins@portageco.com. 

The Portage County Solid Waste District will hold a public hearing to obtain oral comments regarding the draft Plan Update on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 11:15am at the Portage County Board of Commissioners office, 449 S. Meridian St, Ravenna, Ohio 44266 as required by Sections 3734.54 and 3734.55 of the Ohio Revised Code. The draft Plan Update is available for review on the District website at https://portagerecycles.com/or at the District office: 3588 Mogadore Rd, Kent, Ohio 44240.

The Portage County Board of Commissioners will offer sale to the highest bidder the following miscellaneous obsolete County equipment: one truck, dumpsters, and miscellaneous items.

The above equipment will be sold via a LIVE BID ONLINE AUCTION at Edinburg Auction Sales, www.edinburgauction.com, as prescribed by Section 307.12 of the Ohio Revised Code, to the highest bidder. Said equipment may be viewed at the Portage County Solid Waste District at 3588 Mogadore Rd, Kent Ohio 44240 on Monday May 5th, 2025 from 9:00 A.M. to NOON or by appt. The equipment can also be viewed online at www.edinburgauction.com.
